AUTISM: FUNDRAISING FOR JACK.

Jack Armstrong lives up the road from the studio with his parents and brother George. Jack is 6 years old and was diagnosed with autism several years ago.
Over the last 3 years I've spent much time researching, both through written and experimental work, the many parallels between the visual thought of designers and the characteristics of Autism. To be ale to see and understand Jack's condition is something very close to my studio heart. Therefore, to be able to also raise awareness and help his family financially is nothing short of brilliant.

On the 18th July my beautiful red Kalkhoff and I cycled 54miles to raise money for Jack's continued treatment on the Sonrise programme. See below for the current total and further information about how you can donate. Thanks to all who have sponsored me so far.

Alongside my ride, Steve Price (Plan-B Studio) is selling a limited edition print run of 100 posters entitled 'A Poster for Jack'

From Steve Price: "As part of Project10 I designed a poster highlighting one symptom of Autism and Generation Press kindly donated their time and experience to producing 100 beautiful silkscreen prints on GFSmith Colorplan.

All the proceeds go to helping a six year old boy, Jack Armstrong, a neighbour of Lucy Brown who is doing a 57 mile bike ride to also raise money to enable Jack to attend another Intensive Sonrise course to ensure his development continues. Every penny donated will go towards this.

White silkscreen on 175gsm GFSmith Colorplan (Bright Red). Thanks to GFSmith for donating the paper."

Jack is currently being educated from home on the Sonrise programme. It costs a lot of money to continue Jack's education and to keep his parents and volunteers up-to-date on the training. That's where we need your help... and my bike. Please give generously.

I became fascinated by autism in February 2008 while watching the film The Black Balloon in Sydney. For more information about the condition see the National Autistic Society website. Throughout 2008/2009 I researched and wrote a dissertation about the visual thought of designers and its relation and parallels with autism and also produced several pieces of experimental work influenced by my writing. If you would be interested in reading my dissertation, please email the studio.
